ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Apr 06 (PNS) - Pakistan and the United Stated has signed an agreement for the cancellation of US debt of $1 billion here on Saturday.Nancy Powel, US Ambassador to Pakistan and Dr. Waqar Masood Khan, Secretary, Economic Affair division signed the agreements on behalf of their respective governments. Shaukat Aziz, Prime Minister's Advisor on Finance and Economic Affairs witnessed the signing ceremony.
"This $ 1 billion in debt relief will add to the momentum of Pakistan's economy recovery by allowing the government of Pakistan to focus more of its energies and budget resources on critical social development priorities identified in the government's poverty reduction strategy plan," remarked ambassador Powell after signing the agreement.
